I can't compare this week to any of the other previous weeks. Suzanne is the best mentor any intern could ever wish for. She has made this week the most busy and most adventurous of a lifetime. To start off, I had official been thrown into the IS-GEO cave mapping group she had gone to Mexico to coordinate and direct. I did not know this literally meant I was going to be going knee deep in mud after jumping into a pool of spring water down a hole in the middle. Or was going to be climbing down a waterfall formation in the midst of darkness and crawling on my elbows and knees through a tight corridor to get back to where the waterfall was. Literally being the highlight of the week and best possible part of this entire internship. But seriously in the end, before climbing down into the hole we mapped a seriously amazing detailed path in the Cascade Caverns. We had been able to get an Xbox 360 Kinect to be used with the Skanect software on a MAC. Using a YETI battery that allowed us to power it in the caves we mapped with complete darkness at times and in extreme detail. But oddly the Kinect does not scan well in broad daylight. Now I have to go back to the IS-GEO group. They were some of the most bonding group of individuals I have been able to get to go caving with and then before i know it 2 days later have to say good bye. Specifically Naredo, he really wanted me to hang and chill with them, I always felt bad leaving so soon when i had made plans weeks ahead of time with the other interns. But I am still keeping in touch with the majority of the IS-GEO group as they became part of my experience this summer.
