Well, these past days have been extremely busy. To the point where opening up a browser itself was rare. At the beginning of last week i was working on my poster for the mock poster presentation, however, our most amazing Rosie, one of the ICERT coordinators gave us an extended amount of time to finish them. That date now being July 29. Then the past Wednesday, the first day my main mentor, Dr. Suzanne Pierce, arrived back from Mexico. She brought back gifts. A gift indeed for more fun I should say. She bought my project a camera called a "Structure Scanner." This little camera could take 3D images and create the mesh and combine it with the Skanect software that came with it and we now had a fully functioning 3D mapping software. That day she had called a cavern, Innerspace Caverns, and asked if we could scan it sometime that week. Well.... being that I had been playing around with the scanner she got us a time of Thursday at 9am. Well, completely new to this camera and software we already had a gig to go scan the next morning. Fun right. It's just getting started. I wake up at 6am to get of the rode with Suzanne and her Sons and one of her University of Texas students, Meghan. We head there and scan the cave. It was my first cave i had ever been in, it was very cool to experience as a first cave. But the structure scanner seemed to have problems with the darkness. However, i was able to put together one of the stalagmite we scanned. I had to clean up the mesh some and combine three different scans. Result is in the Portfolio tab.
I have to mention that all the interns this summer are beyond amazing. We have become a small family. It will be great to keep in touch after these next few weeks come to a close.
