First week at TACC, simply stated, interesting. Meeting new colleagues and new challenges all around. Meeting people from across the nation and even from Puerto Rico. I met one of colleagues, Grace, at the Atlanta Airport before we boarded. She was coming from Puerto Rico. And we met Moses on our plane. Moses was coming from Maryland. When we landed in Austin we found Joshua. Joshua, too, flew from Puerto Rico. But we met the rest of the crew later in the day, those being; Joseph – California, Alan – California, Fatima – Texas, Keith – Texas, Tiffany – Texas.
This is when the first day of the actual traineeship began. The first three days had been training seminars to get us slightly up to speed on the High Performance Computers that were at Texas Advance Computing Center (TACC). The first of our trainings being strictly on Stampede, the 10th most powerful super computer, was just the basics. But after all the training sessions I went to talk to my mentors, Dr. Suzanne Pierce and John Gentle. This is where they gave me my project on building a reproducible data transformation workflow to convert Geospatial Data into multiple interactive formats.
